In 1987, BCEE decided to construct a tunnel to link the Bank's four buildings situated on the plateau Bourbon. Very soon, the idea of transforming this tunnel into an art gallery took shape ; the work needed to complete this project was carried out in 1992 and 1993.
Since 1995, BCEE has organised themed exhibitions and retrospectives in its contemporary art gallery “Am Tunnel” with works by world-famous artists.
Part of the tunnel is dedicated to the photographer Edward Steichen, renowned for the 'The Family of Man' exhibition. The 'Espace Edward Steichen' hosts a permanent exhibition showing part of BCEE's important collection of Steichen's works.
